Description: The Amano shrimp are workaholics and true underwater vacuum cleaner that will surely keep your tank spick and span. Introduced by Takashi Amano, an aquarium hobbyist, in the 1980s began the infatuation with the Amano shrimp. Today, the Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata) are well liked by hobbyists for their extraordinary appetite for algae, earning them the nickname Algae Shrimp. What makes them great for controlling algae is their ability to tolerate low/moderate levels of salinity. Other common names include Japanese Swamp Shrimp and Yamato Shrimp. These beautiful creatures are mostly translucent with brown to reddish brown dots (may at times appear as dashes). We ship healthy Amano shrimp that are approximately1/2-1 inch (1.3-2.5cm) or bigger in length.
Care: Excellent scavengers that feed on biofilm, algae and organic matter in an established aquarium. In fact, Amanos are known for their aggressive appetites and will work endlessly to keep your tank clean. For newer aquariums, you can use Podvodoy Snowflake 2-3x daily. Friendly nature makes them awesome tankmates.
